Bob Dylan: Ticketnest

By Sara Sara

Bob Dylan was named Robert Allen Zimmerman on his birth on May 24, 1941. Bob is an American singer-songwriter, author, musician and poet. He has been a prominent figure in the history of popular music for five decades. Dylan's best known or mature work is from the 1960s when he became a casual documentarian plus a bit reluctant figurehead of American unrest. Few of his songs, like "Blowing' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changing'", became anthems of the anti-war and civil rights movements. After the long period of Forty years, his 2001 album "Love and Theft", mounted the top five on the charts in the U.S. and the UK. His recent studio album, “Modern Times”, released on August 29, 2006, became his first US #1 album in thirty years, earning him the record of oldest living chart topper in history at the age of 65.
Dylan's early work included politics, social commentary, philosophy and literary influences, denying prevailing pop music(http://www.ticketnest.com/Pop-Rock.php ) traditions and pleasing widely to the counterculture of the time. Through his expansion and personalizing musical styles, he has shown firm dedication to many conventions of American song, ranging from folk and country/blues to rock 'n' roll and rockabilly, to Celtic balladry, even jazz, swing and Broadway.
Dylan performs with the guitar, keyboard and harmonica. Backed by a changing lineup of musicians, he has toured steadily since the late 1980s. He has also recently performed alongside other major artists, such as Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Tom Petty, Jack White, Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler. Although his contributions as performer and recording artist have been central to his career, his songwriting is generally held as his highest accomplishment.
Bob’s career achievements have been acknowledged with the Polar Music Prize, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Kennedy Center Honors, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriters and Songwriters Hall of Fame. Bob was also listed as one of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people of the 20th century.
"Things Have Changed", Bob’s song in 2000 was penned for the film “Wonder Boys”, won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and an Academy Award for Best Song. "Love and Theft" was released on September 11, 2001. Dylan produced this album himself under the pseudonym Jack Frost, and its distinctive sound owes much to the accompanists. Tony Garnier, bassist and bandleader, had played with Dylan for 12 years; this period is longer than any other musician. Another well known guitarist Larry Campbell played on the road with Dylan from 1997 through 2004.
In 2005 preproduction began on a film entitled “I'm Not There”: Suppositions on a Film Concerning Dylan. The movie has seven characters to depict the different angles of Dylan's life. The movie is directed by Todd Haynes, and the cast includes Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale and Richard Gere.
